The club, supported by HLM Architects, have submitted an application to Barnsley Council for development to the south east of the stadium in the current East car park area.
Planning permission is sought for the installation of shipping container-style units and canopies for the sale of food and drink, together with external seating areas, and a stage with display screens.
It would also feature a ‘shoot-out’ area for children and families to practice taking shots on goal.
The fanpark is intended for use by the club’s supporters on match days and for infrequent standalone events. It would replace the existing temporary facilities.
A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: “The proposed fanzone at Barnsley Football Club will make good use of the available space on this part of the site without need for removing/demolishing the existing landscaping.
“The proposed fanzone will create a high-quality venue for the local community and people further afield, with little affect on the surrounding area and local residents.”
