‘Special’ or Something More? Carlos Mendoza’s Shocking Lindor Praise After Walk-Off Thriller

On Friday night at Citi Field, Francisco Lindor gave Mets fans an unforgettable moment by launching a walk-off home run to secure a 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. This wasn’t just any game-winner—it marked Lindor’s 250th career home run and his first walk-off blast as a Met.

The Mets had just lost a 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth after Brendan Donovan tied the game with a solo homer off Huascar Brazobán. However, Brazobán quickly recovered, striking out the next three batters and giving the Mets a chance for redemption. Lindor seized the opportunity, crushing a cutter from Ryan Fernandez into the right-field seats, electrifying the home crowd and delivering the team’s 13th win of the season.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza praised Lindor’s elite play and leadership, calling him a “special player” who impacts the team beyond big moments. Lindor himself reflected on the win as a much-needed morale boost after some recent tough losses, emphasizing the team’s determination to find ways to win.

The game was a back-and-forth battle. The Mets overcame an early 2-0 deficit in the fifth inning thanks to a triple from Tyrone Taylor and an RBI single from Juan Soto, who snapped his 0-for-12 slump and earned a standing ovation. After falling behind again, Mark Vientos tied the game with a solo homer in the sixth, his second in two nights. Luis Torrens later gave the Mets a temporary lead in the eighth with an RBI double before Donovan’s homer tied it again.

Starter David Peterson kept the Mets competitive, giving up three runs over 5 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts. Despite a few defensive miscues, the bullpen held strong.

Meanwhile, Brett Baty extended his hitting streak to five games and recorded his third career stolen base. Now sitting at 13-7, the Mets continue to display grit and resilience—driven by the clutch performances of their star shortstop, whose career milestones just keep stacking up.
