New Denver Broncos tight end Evan Engram is stepping into the “Joker” role that head coach Sean Payton envisions for his offense—a versatile player who can create mismatches all over the field. While Engram is embracing the position, he may not be the only one playing that dynamic role. Boise State star running back Ashton Jeanty has been connected to Denver as a potential trade target.
Jeanty is projected to be a top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, with some speculation placing him as high as sixth overall to the Las Vegas Raiders. However, if he slides down the board, B/R Gridiron has floated a trade scenario that could land him in Denver.
In the proposal, the Broncos would acquire the No. 8 and No. 111 picks in exchange for the No. 20, No. 51, and No. 85 picks, allowing them to move up and potentially select Jeanty.
Jeanty has dominated the Mountain West Conference for two straight years, leading in both carries and rushing yards. In 2024, he racked up an incredible 2,601 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns on 374 carries. While his receiving stats might not scream “Joker” at first glance—with a 23-catch, 138-yard, 1-touchdown line—his full pass-catching body of work tells a different story. Jeanty hauled in 43 passes for 569 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2024.
A recipient of both the Doak Walker Award and Maxwell Award last season, Jeanty’s skill set perfectly complements Payton’s vision. Whether Engram remains the sole “Joker” or shares the spotlight with Jeanty, Denver could be building a versatile and dangerous offense.
