The Tennessee Titans currently hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and up until recently, many believed they were leaning toward selecting quarterback Cam Ward. However, a major development involving Shedeur Sanders could be altering their plans.
According to Jim Wyatt, the Titans have canceled a private workout with Sanders that was scheduled for April 9. This surprising move comes shortly after Sanders’ impressive performance during his Pro Day, which may have elevated his stock to the point where he is now a strong contender for the top pick.
Tennessee is in dire need of a franchise quarterback, and all signs now point to them being seriously interested in Sanders. His meetings with the Titans, along with his game footage and Pro Day showing, might have convinced the team that he is the best fit.
Although teams sometimes release misleading information to throw off other franchises, this particular move is significant. For months, analysts have debated whether Ward or Sanders should be the top quarterback in this draft class, but Sanders’ recent showing could be tipping the scales in his favor.
During his Pro Day with the Colorado Buffaloes, Sanders showcased his deep-ball prowess, connecting smoothly with Travis Hunter and other teammates. While some of his mid-range passes appeared inconsistent, his overall accuracy was impressive. Known for his precision, Sanders led the FBS in 2024 with a 74% completion rate, and his career mark of 71.8% is also an FBS record.
Of course, Pro Day performances don’t fully simulate NFL conditions, as quarterbacks aren’t pressured during these workouts. Still, Sanders’ passing skills and decision-making remain undeniable, and many scouts view him as one of the top quarterback prospects available.
If the Titans do select Sanders first overall, it would cause a major shake-up in the draft. Cam Ward, once projected to go No. 1, might slide to the Cleveland Browns at No. 2 or even to the New York Giants at No. 3. Sanders’ selection would drastically alter many draft boards, especially since some projections had him falling outside the top five or even into the 20s.
While there’s always a chance this is a strategic smokescreen by the Titans, the cancellation of Sanders’ private workout suggests a genuine shift in direction, making it a headline development in the lead-up to the draft.
