The Miami Dolphins opted not to trade cornerback Jalen Ramsey during the 2025 NFL Draft, but a move could still happen before the regular season begins. While Ramsey is no longer at his peak, he remains a solid starter. He played all 17 games last season, recording two interceptions, 11 pass breakups, 60 tackles, and earning a 76.9 PFF grade, ranking 10th among 116 qualified cornerbacks.
Despite his contributions, both the Dolphins and Ramsey are open to parting ways. NFL Network’s Nick Shook suggested the Baltimore Ravens could be a logical destination. Although Baltimore’s cornerback room is deep, the franchise has a history of signing veteran players looking to win a championship. The Ravens could benefit from Ramsey’s experience, even if fitting his contract under the salary cap may be challenging.
Baltimore already features standout corner Marlon Humphrey, who had a strong 2024 campaign, and rookie Nate Wiggins, who showed promise late in the season. While the team’s secondary is strong, adding Ramsey could give them an edge, especially when facing top-tier quarterbacks like Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen. A trio of Ramsey, Humphrey, and Wiggins could make the Ravens’ defense one of the league’s best.
Financially, the trade comes with complications. Ramsey’s cap hit is $16.6 million for 2025. If the Dolphins trade him before June 1st, they’ll absorb $25.2 million in dead money. However, a post-June 1st trade would reduce their cap hit to $6.75 million in 2025. The Ravens would then owe Ramsey $9.91 million for the year.
Though Ramsey is under contract through 2028, none of his money is guaranteed beyond 2025, making him effectively a one-year rental. He may also request a contract revision, which could deter interested teams. Given his age and contract situation, the Dolphins likely won’t receive a high return, but the Ravens—armed with compensatory draft picks—might send one in exchange for a veteran corner who could push them closer to a Super Bowl.
