With the NCAA Tournament underway, fans of non-contending teams like the Chicago Bulls are already scouting potential draft prospects who could make an impact in the 2025-26 season. Although the Bulls’ backcourt is already packed with talent, many draft analysts predict that Chicago will still opt for a guard with their first-round pick. Given Arturas Karnisovas’ unconventional roster-building strategies, this wouldn’t be a surprising move.
In his latest NBA mock draft, Jonathan Wasserman of NBA.com projects that the Bulls will select Michigan State guard Jase Richardson with the No. 8 overall pick. Richardson, the son of former Golden State Warriors star and two-time NBA Slam Dunk Champion Jason Richardson, has drawn comparisons to Houston Rockets rookie Reed Sheppard. If Wasserman’s comparison holds true, Bulls fans have every reason to be excited about the potential addition.
Sheppard is known for his leadership, creativity with the ball, defensive effort, and consistent shooting ability—all attributes that Richardson has demonstrated at Michigan State. These qualities make him an intriguing prospect for Chicago, but the Bulls’ front office must first address a crucial question: how will they manage their already crowded guard rotation?
One key factor is the status of newly acquired guard Tre Jones, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Additionally, Ayo Dosunmu, Josh Giddey, and Coby White have all had standout moments this year, with White particularly excelling in recent weeks. Given the depth at the position, the Bulls may need to explore trade options to clear space for a new addition like Richardson.
While it’s still early in the draft process, if Chicago is serious about targeting Richardson, significant roster changes will be necessary. At least two of their current guards may need to be moved to make room for the young prospect. Whether the Bulls are willing to make those adjustments remains to be seen, but if Richardson lives up to his comparisons, he could be a valuable asset for the team’s future.
