Lions Stun the NFL—Snag Game-Changing EDGE in Shocking 2025 Mock Draft Trade!

As the initial frenzy of NFL free agency settles, one glaring need remains for the Detroit Lions—the edge rusher position. Despite expectations for a major signing to pair with Aidan Hutchinson, general manager Brad Holmes has taken a more patient approach. If a recent mock draft is any indication, the Lions may be eyeing a high-upside prospect in the upcoming draft instead.

In FOX Sports analyst Ralph Vacchiano’s latest mock draft, Detroit is projected to trade down from its original spot in the 2025 NFL Draft. In this scenario, the Lions strike a deal with the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, moving back to the 32nd overall pick. The Eagles jump ahead to select offensive tackle Josh Simmons, while Detroit lands an explosive edge rusher—Mike Green from Marshall.

Green’s Impact

Though Green hails from a smaller program, his performance has been anything but small. Leading the FBS with 17 sacks last season, he has made a name for himself with relentless energy and sharp instincts. His ability to create pressure in crucial moments has drawn the attention of teams that prioritize toughness and potential—qualities the Lions highly value.

“This 6-foot-3, 251-pounder plays with an intensity that Dan Campbell will love,” Vacchiano remarked. “The jump in competition will be significant, but his upside is undeniable.”

Why He Fits Detroit

The Lions are in clear need of help opposite Hutchinson, especially after releasing Za’Darius Smith and facing injury concerns with Marcus Davenport. While Green may require time to adjust to the NFL, his raw talent and aggressive style align perfectly with Campbell’s team culture. By trading down and still securing a high-ceiling player, Detroit would address a key defensive need while gaining additional draft assets.
