The Cincinnati Bengals have yet to reach a new contract agreement with star edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, prompting speculation that they may seek reinforcement at the position in the upcoming NFL Draft. Pro Football Focus analyst Mason Cameron recently identified ideal Day 2 draft picks for each team, and for the Bengals, he suggests Ohio State’s Jack Sawyer as a strong candidate.
Cameron notes that Sawyer, an Ohio native, wouldn’t have to relocate if selected by Cincinnati. With Hendrickson’s future uncertain, Sawyer could provide immediate value as a reliable, high-floor option at defensive end in the Bengals’ 4-3 scheme. Cameron highlighted Sawyer’s impressive 90.7 pass-rush grade on true pass sets in 2024, suggesting he’s NFL-ready.
Cincinnati has already met with Sawyer ahead of the draft, indicating mutual interest and familiarity, which could boost the likelihood of the Bengals selecting him. Sawyer wrapped up a productive senior season at Ohio State with nine sacks and 59 tackles. He also demonstrated playmaking ability by returning two fumbles for touchdowns, defending seven passes, and recording an interception.
If Hendrickson departs, the Bengals will likely be looking for a dependable replacement to maintain the strength of their pass rush. In that case, Jack Sawyer could be a top target when they make their selection on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
