The Dallas Cowboys have been notably active this offseason. While skeptics may remain in an “I’ll believe it when I see it” mindset, the team has undeniably been busier than in recent years.

Dallas has already signed multiple free agents, some even before the official start of the league year during the legal tampering period. This level of early activity is uncommon for the Cowboys, who have traditionally been more reserved in free agency.

Additionally, the Cowboys have completed two trades, using compensatory picks to move down in the draft while acquiring Kaiir Elam from the Buffalo Bills and Kenneth Murray from the Tennessee Titans. Though these deals aren’t blockbuster moves like the past trades for Stephon Gilmore or Brandin Cooks, they signal a front office that is making a greater effort.

With the NFL owners’ meetings taking place this week, key figures from across the league are speaking on the record. Stephen Jones addressed the possibility of further roster additions and confirmed that more trades could be on the horizon.

“We have some things we’re looking at from a trade standpoint,” Jones stated. This suggests the Cowboys have identified potential veteran targets and engaged in discussions, though no agreements have been reached yet.

At present, Dallas holds 10 draft picks:

  • 1st Round (12th overall)
  • 2nd Round (44th overall)
  • 3rd Round (76th overall)
  • 5th Round (149th overall)
  • 5th Round (171st overall) [compensatory pick]
  • 5th Round (174th overall) [compensatory pick]
  • 6th Round (204th overall) [from Kaiir Elam trade]
  • 6th Round (211th overall) [compensatory pick]
  • 7th Round (239th overall) [from Kenneth Murray trade]
  • 7th Round (247th overall) [from Jonathan Mingo trade]

It seems unlikely that the Cowboys will use all 10 picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, past experience has shown that anything is possible. Four years ago, after trading back in the first round, Dallas was expected to package picks for a move up, but they ultimately used every selection.

Stephen Jones is typically careful with his words, especially when discussing trades. His comments do not guarantee that a deal will happen, but they indicate a high level of confidence that one could materialize.

What moves should the Cowboys make next?
