The Cleveland Browns have added veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to their roster once again, signing him to a one-year contract. The deal is reportedly worth $4 million, with potential incentives that could push the total value to $13 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Flacco, a former Super Bowl MVP, re-joins the Browns after a strong showing in the 2023 season, during which he earned the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award.
Flacco, who is entering his 18th NFL season at age 40, had also been in talks with the Pittsburgh Steelers before deciding to return to Cleveland. In 2023, under head coach Kevin Stefanski, Flacco started five games for the Browns, leading the team to a 4-1 record and helping them secure a playoff spot. During those starts, he completed 60.3% of his passes, throwing for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.
Although his primary stint was with the Baltimore Ravens, where he won a Super Bowl in 2012, Flacco has shown he still has the capability to deliver in high-pressure situations. In that memorable Super Bowl run, he threw for 1,140 yards and 11 touchdowns without a single interception, earning him MVP honors.
Interestingly, Flacco also played six games for the Indianapolis Colts last season, posting impressive stats—completing 65.3% of his passes for 1,761 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions, matching a career-high completion rate.
Now back with Cleveland, Flacco is expected to compete for the starting quarterback job with Kenny Pickett, a former first-round pick whom the Browns acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in the offseason. Despite his age, Flacco continues to attract interest from NFL teams due to his experience and ability to perform under pressure, making him a valuable asset for the Browns heading into the new season.
