BREAKING: Florida Gators Lock in 2028 Rival, Golf Dominates, & WBB Stuns at the Buzzer—What’s Next?

Florida Gators Set 2028 Football Matchup Against Furman

Florida Football has locked in an FCS opponent for the 2028 season. The Gators announced they will face Furman on September 2, 2028. This marks the 10th meeting between the two programs, with their last matchup in 2011 ending in a 54-32 victory for Florida.

Gator fans may recognize a familiar connection—Billy Napier, Florida’s head coach, played at Furman and even led the team to the 2001 I-AA championship game.

While Florida has recently kicked off seasons against Power Four teams, they will open 2025 against FCS Long Island University instead.

Luke Poulter Clinches Individual Golf Title

Florida’s golf team continues to shine, with sophomore Luke Poulter securing a big win at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, GA. Poulter sealed his victory with a birdie on the 18th hole, finishing the tournament at -8, just one stroke ahead of teammate Ian Gilligan.

Despite a tough second round, Florida’s team rallied on Sunday with a -10 performance, but ultimately fell one stroke short of Utah, finishing in second place.

Women’s Basketball Stuns with Buzzer-Beater Victory

The 2024/25 season hasn’t been smooth for Florida’s women’s basketball team. Although they made a small run in the SEC Tournament, their 16-17 record kept them far from NCAA Tournament contention.

However, the Gators secured a spot in the WBIT, where they won their first-round game against Northern Iowa. On Sunday, they traveled to Las Vegas to face UNLV and delivered a thrilling 86-84 victory.

Down by one in the final moments, Kenza Salgues drained a clutch three-pointer at the buzzer, keeping Florida’s season alive.

Next, the Gators advance to the WBIT quarterfinals, where they will host Texas Tech on Thursday at 6 PM. The remaining teams in the tournament include Gonzaga, Minnesota, James Madison, Belmont, Villanova, and Portland.

Florida’s postseason hopes are still alive—can they keep the momentum going?
