Breaking: Dan Quinn, a former DC for the Dallas Cowboys, is departing to take the helm as head coach of the Washington Commanders.

Former DC Cowboys player Dallas The Washington Commanders have named Dan Quinn as their new head coach.

It’s official now. Dan Quinn has left the Dallas Cowboys organization.

On Thursday, word leaked out that Quinn will finally be joining the NFL as a head coach again. While he served as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons during his first tenure, he will be joining a team not too far from his most recent one for his second stay.

The Washington Commanders have named Dan Quinn as their new head coach.

After about 1000 days, Quinn’s third season as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator is by far his least successful. Quinn was the final NFL team to fill the skipper position this offseason, but Washington did so with Quinn and appears to respect anything he can provide to the table. Quinn has interviewed for head coaching positions after every season.

In all honesty, even though Quinn had a difficult second half of the season with Dallas, he was a huge defensive force for the bulk of his tenure there. Of course, having elite players like Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, DeMarcus Lawrence, DaRon Bland, and others at their disposal has made a big difference, but under Quinn the Cowboys have reached defensive peaks that have never before been attained, if at all.

The date is January 14, 2012. We are in San Francisco at Candlestick Park. The 49ers need a touchdown with 14 seconds remaining, down three, and facing a third down to maintain their hopes of making the playoffs without having to go to OT. In the meantime, the Saints can draw a conclusion from this and move on to the NFC Championship Game. We need to look back in time to comprehend how we got here and to fully appreciate what this moment signifies.

With Quinn now officially gone the Cowboys have some work to do themselves as they now are in the market for a defensive coordinator. It was reported last weekend that they had potential interest in Ron Rivera if Dan Quinn were to wind up leaving… well here we are.

Funny enough it is Ron Rivera’s seat with the Commanders that Dan Quinn is inheriting as Ron was that team’s most recent head coach. Could the Cowboys just outright swap and put Rivera in Quinn’s old office at The Star?
