Leaked: What the Raiders Really Think About Ashton Jeanty—And Why It Could Shake Up Draft Night

The Las Vegas Raiders have had their eye on Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty for some time, and as the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, that interest appears to be growing. After finishing with the league’s worst rushing offense in 2024, the Raiders have done little to upgrade the position, making running back a top priority this offseason.

Jeanty is coming off a historic college season and is widely regarded as one of the best running back prospects in recent years. With the Raiders holding the No. 6 overall pick, many analysts believe Jeanty could be a strong candidate for that selection. Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz has reported that Jeanty has several supporters within the Raiders organization, drawing comparisons to the Marshawn Lynch era under Pete Carroll. Schultz suggested that building the offense around Jeanty and utilizing play-action could help the team emulate the success Carroll had in Seattle, especially after the team extended quarterback Geno Smith.

Despite the value debate surrounding first-round running backs, Jeanty is seen as more than just a typical prospect. Schultz shared that one NFL general manager views Jeanty as a rare talent, calling him a “superstar” and projecting him as a 1,500-yard rusher from day one. While the draft class is deep at running back, Jeanty’s blend of skill and potential could justify a top-10 selection.

Jeanty himself is aware of the Raiders’ interest and has expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of joining the team. He had a brief encounter with Geno Smith during a team visit and spoke highly of the veteran quarterback, noting his success with the Seahawks and his partnership with Pete Carroll. Jeanty believes Smith would be an ideal teammate, adding to the appeal of playing in Las Vegas.

If the Raiders do select Jeanty, the pairing with Smith could become a dynamic offensive duo, giving the franchise the boost it needs in the backfield.
