Despite the Detroit Lions’ recent inability to reach the Super Bowl, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James made sure to offer head coach Dan Campbell some well-deserved thanks.

While everyone else was condemning Campbell for his questionable selections in the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers, James took advantage of the opportunity to thank the Lions’ head coach for how he managed and coached his squad.

Dan Campbell’s Brutal Message to the Detroit Lions

Following the Lions’ agonizing 34-31 loss to the 49ers on Sunday, Campbell said that he informed his players that it’s probable they won’t be able to recreate their success next season, and that their missed opportunity was their only shot at the Super Bowl.

While Campbell stated that he does not believe that, he did not want his squad to become disillusioned by their fantastic run to the conference championship and feel they will be able to repeat it next year. He emphasized that in order to continue their success, they must improve and keep the same level of hunger they had when they began the 2023 season.

“You aren’t hiding from anyone anymore. Everyone will want a piece of you,” Campbell said, adding that making the playoffs and fighting for the Super Bowl will be “twice as difficult” in the 2024 season given what they have accomplished thus far.

After seeing Campbell’s statement, LeBron James couldn’t help but express his gratitude for the coach. It’s rare to see a coach keep it real with his player like Campbell did. And, given how far the Lions have come under Campbell, the sentiments are much more significant.

On his Instagram story, James referred to Campbell as a “soldier” and a “great coach.” He then stated that he simply “loves” Campbell.

While it is terrible to watch the Lions’ season end the way it did on Sunday, it should not detract from Campbell’s efforts to make the organization relevant again and restore hope in the city after decades of mediocrity and playoff failure.

The Lions are only getting started, and while it will be challenging, there is cause to be positive, especially with Campbell leading the way.

Sure enough, James and many other fans will keep an eye on the Lions as they anticipate their next moves.
