Seton Hall transfer and Brooklyn native Kadary Richmond has committed to St. John’s on Tuesday afternoon, according to multiple sources. Richmond also considered Oklahoma, Syracuse, Miami, USC, and Illinois.
Richmond comes to Queens after playing for a pair of local rivals. He played his freshman year at Syracuse, then transferred to Seton Hall for his next three seasons, leading the Pirates to an NCAA tournament berth in his sophomore year. In 94 games for the Pirates, Richmond averaged 11.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.9 steals while shooting 42.5% from the field, 33.8% from three, and 76.0% from the free throw line.
Richmond led the Pirates to their first NIT championship since 1953 and was selected to the All-Big East First Team last season. Richmond participated in 35 games the previous season and finished with averages of 15.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 2.2 steals while shooting 80.8% from the free-throw line, 27.0% from three, and 44.1% from the field.
Kadary Richmond is presently ranked by 247Sports as the greatest player to use the transfer site in 2024.
St. John’s has committed twice in as many days after acquiring Utah transfer guard Deivon Smith yesterday. Smith and Richmond will form one of the nation’s most potent backcourts under Rick Pitino’s guidance. Smith and Richmond are members of the same transfer class that also includes former North Texas forward Aaron Scott and former USC center Vince Iwuchukwu.
Following Richmond’s pledge, St. John’s has one additional scholarship open for the 2024–2025 season.
