Broncos’ Next Big Move? The WR Target That Could Change Everything

Good morning, Broncos fans!

Given the Denver Broncos’ recent inactivity in free agency, it appears they may have wrapped up their offseason signings. However, according to team insider Mike Klis, the possibility of adding a free-agent wide receiver remains on the table.

Klis begins by noting that Denver has shown some interest in star receivers Cooper Kupp and Stefon Diggs, though nothing significant has materialized. He then suggests the team is exploring options to strengthen its current receiver group, which includes veteran No. 1 wideout Courtland Sutton and the young trio of Marvin Mims Jr., Devaughn Vele, and Troy Franklin. Among the potential additions, Klis highlights Keenan Allen and Elijah Moore.

Allen, despite playing in a struggling Chicago Bears offense last season with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, managed to record 70 receptions and seven touchdowns. Though he will turn 33 soon, his ability to perform well in a weak offense demonstrates his reliability. Allen’s consistent hands and effectiveness in crucial moments could greatly benefit rookie quarterback Bo Nix and the Broncos’ offense. While his cost remains a factor, his experience and skill set make him an appealing option for Denver.

On the other hand, Moore has not replicated the success of his rookie campaign and doesn’t offer a unique skill set compared to what the Broncos already possess.

Klis also mentions Tyler Lockett as another potential target. Lockett has built a reputation as a clutch performer over his 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. The key question for Denver’s coaching staff is whether his decline in production last year was due to aging—he turns 33 in September—or a result of an ineffective offensive system that ultimately led to a coordinator change.

Adding a veteran receiver would be a logical move for the Broncos, providing leadership for the younger wideouts while also giving support to Sutton and Nix. Among the available options, Allen appears to be the most intriguing candidate. Seeing him in a Broncos jersey might take some adjustment, but his presence could significantly enhance Denver’s offensive capabilities.

For now, it remains to be seen whether head coach Sean Payton and the Broncos will take this step and bring in a veteran pass-catcher.
