The Vikings are set to acquire Shaquill Griffin, a former Pro Bowl cornerback, as reported by Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Griffin, who was waived during the 2023 season, has played for three teams since his rookie contract with the Seahawks ended. Despite his recent journey through multiple teams, he now has the opportunity to join the Vikings and add another chapter to his career.

Griffin’s trajectory has seen fluctuations in recent years. After a successful stint with the Seahawks and Jaguars, he signed a lucrative three-year, $40 million deal with the Jaguars in 2021. However, a back injury in 2022 led to his release as a cap casualty, and subsequent stints with the Texans and Panthers followed.

During the 2023 season, Griffin made six starts and contributed notably to the Texans’ defense, including securing a key interception in a game against the Bengals. Despite ranking 53rd among corners by Pro Football Focus last year, Griffin’s solid performance adds depth and experience to the Vikings’ cornerback group, led by Byron Murphy. The Vikings have prioritized strengthening their front seven in free agency but view Griffin as a significant addition to their defensive backfield.
