Pelicans travel to Indianapolis to watch the fierce Pacers offense on national television.
.
The Pacers lead the NBA in various statistical categories, including points scored (123.9), field goal percentage (50.9%), points in the paint (51), and assists (31). Tyrese Haliburton, a two-time All-Star, spearheads their offensive prowess, averaging 21.5 points and 11.6 assists. Indiana strengthened their lineup before the trade deadline with the acquisition of All-Star forward Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors. Siakam has since maintained impressive performances, averaging 21.1 points on a career-high 55% shooting from the field.
Despite their challenges, the Pelicans have won three consecutive road games, surpassing their road wins from the previous season by three. This marks the first meeting between the teams this season, with scheduling constraints preventing matchups in the entirety of 2023. Historically, games between these teams have been closely contested, with five of the last seven decided by seven points or fewer. However, the Pelicans have struggled in clutch situations this season, holding a 1-6 record in games decided by three points or less.
The Pelicans are hopeful that Trey Murphy III will be available on Wednesday and can continue his strong shooting from the previous game, where he made six three-pointers, his highest in a game since December. Murphy’s recent shooting struggles notwithstanding, a return to form would greatly benefit the Pelicans as they aim for playoff contention. Currently holding the fifth seed, the Pelicans are only 1.5 games ahead of the eighth spot. Following Wednesday’s game in Indiana, the teams will face each other again on Friday night at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
