In the latest episode of “In The Trenches,” Jon Jansen was joined by Steve Casula, the newly appointed tight ends coach for the Michigan Wolverines. Casula, who previously served as an analyst for Michigan football from 2019-2021, shared insights on various topics, including his return to Ann Arbor.

Casula, now the tight ends coach, acknowledged the significant contributions of Sherrone Moore and Grant Newsome to the tight end position group he is taking over. He praised the team’s exceptional effort, technique, and focus on team success, emphasizing that these qualities are indicative of a potential national championship team.

The coach highlighted Michigan’s unique utilization of tight ends in critical moments of the 2023 season, crediting players like Blake, Bredy (Max Bredeson), Colston, and A.J. Barner for their roles in key plays.

Expressing admiration for standout player Colston Loveland, Casula described him as one of the finest college football players in the country. He commended Loveland not just for his on-field prowess but also for his positive and welcoming personality.

Casula also praised Max Bredeson, noting his dedication to the weight room and growth, portraying him as a quintessential “Go Blue Guy” who embodies the values of Michigan football.

Regarding Marlin Klein, Casula drew a parallel with Luke Schoonmaker’s trajectory, expressing excitement about Klein’s talent and anticipating significant progress.

The coach acknowledged the contributions of younger talents like Josh Beetham, Deacon Tonielli, and Zack Marshall, expressing enthusiasm for coaching this group.

Looking ahead to the future, Casula addressed the incoming freshmen tight ends, advising them to focus on taking one day at a time, soaking up experiences in the weight room, and being in the best shape of their lives.
