Cats duo will lead again under the unchanged leadership group.
Geelong has announced the leadership group for 2024.
GEELONG has decided to keep the same leadership group in place, stating that Patrick Dangerfield and Tom Stewart would head the team for the second season in a row in 2024.
Dangerfield will be the Cats’ only captain, with Stewart as vice-captain.
The two were promoted to the positions before of last season following the retirement of premiership skipper Joel Selwood, who had been captain since 2017.
Dangerfield became Geelong’s 54th VFL/AFL captain after serving as vice-captain alongside Stewart in 2022 under Selwood.
Since his debut in 2008, the 33-year-old has played 321 games, including 167 for Geelong. He has been chosen All-Australian eight times, won three Carji Greeves Medals (2016, 2017, 2019), and received a Brownlow Medal (2016).
Stewart’s leadership potential was recognized early in his stint at GMHBA Stadium, and he was named to the Cats’ leadership team in 2019 after making his debut in 2017.
On the field, the 30-year-old’s resume speaks for itself, having won five All-Australian blazers, a premiership in 2022, and became a dual Carji Greeves Medallist last season, cementing his status as one of the game’s best defenders.
Stewart signed a three-year contract extension in December, which will keep him at Geelong until the end of 2027.
