Can Rams Sign Van Ginkel, a Free Agent from the Dolphins?

The Los Angeles Rams, ranking in the bottom ten in sacks during the previous NFL season, may seek edge-rushing reinforcements in the upcoming free agency. While higher-profile options like Brian Burns or Josh Allen are available, their price tags might be deemed excessive. An alternative, potentially flying under the radar for many teams, is Miami Dolphins linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel.

The Rams have a history of pursuing edge rushers in free agency, notably targeting players like Von Miller and Leonard Floyd. In those instances, Miller was an aging player seeking a change, and Floyd, chosen with the ninth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, was considered by some as a draft disappointment. This history suggests the Rams have a tendency to pursue less heralded free agents, making Van Ginkel a fitting candidate.

Van Ginkel had a commendable season with the Dolphins, tallying six sacks in just 11 starts. While not as high-profile as some alternatives, his potential impact could be significant, reminiscent of the immediate contributions made by Floyd and Miller upon joining the Rams. Acquiring an athlete like Van Ginkel could alleviate the pressure on defensive stalwarts Aaron Donald and Kobe Turner, allowing them to showcase their skills even more effectively.
