In a special moment for Miami Hurricanes fans, former quarterback Cam Ward and 2026 commit Dereon Coleman participated in a joint workout session, highlighting both present excellence and future potential for “The U.” This session symbolized a connection between Miami’s current roster and its promising future.
For Coleman, training alongside a quarterback of Ward’s caliber provided invaluable insight into the demands of college football. His outstanding performance earned him the Davey O’ Brien Award and a spot as a Heisman Trophy finalist. Now, as he prepares for the 2025 NFL Draft, Ward is projected as a top pick, with strong interest from teams like the Tennessee Titans, who may select him with the No. 1 overall pick.
Meanwhile, Coleman is emerging as a promising quarterback in his own right. Hailing from Orlando, Florida, he is a dynamic dual-threat QB from Jones High School. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 160 pounds, he has demonstrated exceptional athleticism and leadership. In his sophomore season, he led Jones High to a 10-4 record and a deep playoff run, throwing for 2,236 yards and 16 touchdowns while also rushing for 247 yards and four scores.
Coleman committed to Miami in July 2024, choosing the Hurricanes over other major programs. Since then, he has been firm in his decision, dismissing continued recruitment efforts from other schools. In a recent interview, he made it clear, saying, “My recruitment has been shut down since I committed. I don’t know why schools keep offering me. I’m not going to see any other schools. I only have one official visit, and that’s Miami.” With his strong commitment and recent workout with Ward, it’s evident that Coleman is fully dedicated to the Hurricanes’ future.
