Jumbo Package: Nick Sheridan will take over as Alabama’s offensive coordinator going forward

8 underclassmen that can play key roles for Alabama Football next season - Yahoo Sports

‘Bama Twitterdom seems poised for disappointment, as there has been widespread reluctance regarding the potential promotion of TE Coach Nick Sheridan to offensive coordinator amid the uncertainty surrounding Ryan Grubb. The prevailing sentiment has been a lack of enthusiasm for Sheridan taking on the offensive reins, with few vocalizing support for this move. Notably, even those who do express optimism often fall into the category of individuals who downplay the significance of the offensive coordinator role.

Recent developments suggest that head coach DeBoer is leaning towards appointing tight ends coach Nick Sheridan as the offensive coordinator, filling the void left by Ryan Grubb’s departure to the Seattle Seahawks. Despite having just joined the Crimson Tide staff less than a month ago, Sheridan, originally hired for tight ends coaching, seems set to step into the offensive coordinator role. There’s also speculation about the possibility of having co-offensive coordinators in DeBoer’s inaugural year, as reported by ESPN.

Alabama OnLine will continue to monitor the situation, considering DeBoer’s likely deep involvement in the offense, regardless of the final decision. Sheridan, who previously coached tight ends under DeBoer at Washington and succeeded him as the offensive coordinator at Indiana from 2020-21, has experience as a passing game coordinator at South Florida and Western Kentucky.

On3 attempts to highlight some positives, noting Sheridan’s role in the success of Indiana’s offense in 2020. However, it’s crucial to mention that IU’s pass efficiency ranked 40th that year, and Sheridan’s track record in other seasons reflects lower rankings in passer efficiency (97th, 111th, and 113th). Despite potential reservations, it’s worth considering that this promotion might be more symbolic, rewarding loyalty and supporting the career of a long-time assistant. Nevertheless, skepticism surrounds this decision, given the perceived questionable staffing choices by the new head coach, particularly in light of the coaching staff’s mixed track records.
