Pittsburgh Steelers’ standout edge rusher T.J. Watt found himself in the runner-up position for the Defensive Player of the Year award. Expressing his sentiments on X before the NFL Honors ceremony, the 2021 winner posted “Nothing I’m not used to” as a prelude to the event.

When questioned by SB Nation’bs JP Acosta aout his post and his overall reaction to not winning the award, Watt clarified, “It was just one of those things where people were seeing that I wasn’t there, I wanted to let them know why I wasn’t there, and it was a situation where it is something I’m truly used to at this point. So it’s used as motivation going forward.”

Despite Watt’s statistical superiority in various categories, such as sacks, pressures, hits on the quarterback, hurries, tackles for loss, pass deflections, as well as contributing an interception and a touchdown during the year, the award ultimately went to Myles Garrett, the edge rusher for the Cleveland Browns.
