NFL Mock Draft 2024: Broncos Trade Up, Select An Unexpected QB.Denver Broncos vs. Detroit Lions: TV channel, time, what to know | FOX31

Several teams outside the top 10 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft order are in need of a quarterback, and this prompts the need for trades to secure one of the top prospects. In the latest 2024 NFL mock draft by CBS Sports, the Denver Broncos make a move into the top 10, targeting a surprising choice for their new franchise quarterback. Despite LSU’s Jayden Daniels still being available, the Broncos opt for Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy after trading up to the No. 7 pick in this mock draft.

According to Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports, Denver executes the trade to secure McCarthy, emphasizing his athleticism, strong arm, ability to throw from multiple arm angles, and quick progression through reads. Fornelli suggests that McCarthy’s qualities make him a quarterback that would fit well under the leadership of Sean Payton.

While fit is considered important for quarterbacks transitioning to the next level, questions arise about the decision to trade up for McCarthy over Daniels in terms of talent, production, and potential. The Atlanta Falcons benefit the most from this projection, as the Broncos’ move leaves Daniels available for them to select at the next spot. This would add the dynamic Heisman Trophy winner to an already explosive offensive lineup featuring Drake London, Bijan Robinson, and Kyle Pitts.

Notably, the mock draft places four quarterbacks in the top 10, with no additional signal-callers projected in the first round. This leaves prospects like Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. and Oregon’s Bo Nix waiting until Day 2 to be drafted.
