Tillman Is Excited to Continue Boston’s Winning Tradition.
BOSTON – Xavier Tillman, recently acquired by the Boston Celtics from Memphis ahead of the trade deadline, expressed his elation at joining the team with a rich history of success. The 6-foot-7 center/power forward, obtained in exchange for a future second-round draft pick, shared his excitement during his first shootaround in Boston on Friday.
Tillman, who has long admired the Celtics’ winning legacy, especially during the Kevin Garnett era, considers the opportunity to be part of a successful organization as “pretty awesome.” Having learned more about the Boston experience from former Memphis teammate Marcus Smart, Tillman appreciates the similarities in fan passion and hard work between the two cities.
Although recovering from a minor knee injury and not yet ready for on-court action, Tillman is immersing himself in understanding Boston’s system thoroughly. He aims to be well-prepared to contribute once fully healthy. Known for his defensive versatility, Tillman sees potential for impact within the team’s defensive strategy, as highlighted during Friday’s film session.
Celtics President of Basketball Operations, Brad Stevens, revealed the team’s longstanding interest in Tillman, praising his physical attributes, lateral movement, and well-rounded basketball skills. Stevens expressed excitement about Tillman’s addition, emphasizing his ability to compete, pass, and contribute positively to the team.
