The least sensible choice on C’s radar for a less-than-ideal Boston Celtics trade target is: Analyst

Gio Rivera of NESN didn’t hold back while criticizing Otto Porter, a veteran that the Toronto Raptors are debating dealing or releasing before the February 8 trade deadline/buyout deadline. Porter is one of the Boston Celtics’ top targets for Grant Williams’ TPE.

Porter is among the least acceptable candidates among those considered, including Andre Drummond and Kelly Olynyk, according to Rivera, who also stated that the club requires more than a spokesperson who could socialize with other reserve players.

Porter has played 30 or less games in the last three seasons, which makes him a less-than-desirable choice for Boston,” Rivera stated before adding, “There is an ongoing concern surrounding Porter’s health.” Porter is not the best choice, considering the Celtics have been linked to players like Andre Drummond and Kelly Olynyk. Boston requires consistency, not merely an experienced spokesperson to speak with Neemias Queta or Payton Pritchard.

In a move reminiscent of the Simpsons “don’t make me tap the sign” meme, the Houdini has linked to a report from NBC Sports Boston’s Jordan Daly, stating that the Boston Celtics won’t be searching for a game-changer at the trade deadline. Otto Porter Jr. is a non-game-changing addition that the Celtics can trade for, but shouldn’t.

The majority of the minutes in Boston’s nightly rotation have already been used, so the team isn’t searching for a game-changing addition because their core lineup is already established and effective.” Daly began by stating, “Boston’s bench, which was viewed as a weak area prior to the season, has gradually demonstrated its ability to play meaningful minutes, putting the team’s success ahead of individual accolades and playing team-first basketball. Given that, adding more depth is always a good idea.

And we have found a player who, at least on paper, entirely meets that description in Porter. Regretfully, neither the short-term nor long-term benefits of dealing for Porter are great for the squad. With his contract expiring and an unknown future in the league beyond 2023–24, the former No. 3 overall choice is not a guy that makes sense to acquire and is not likely to steal minutes from even Sam Hauser come playoff time.

From a chemistry perspective, Drummond might not be the solution, and Olynyk is pricey and not worth the contracts of Al Horford, Pritchard, or any of the starting five. In the unfortunate event of a Boston Celtics injury, they would, at the very least, be more dependable.

Unexpectedly, a Boston Celtics trade deadline target was mentioned in relation to the Wizards starter.

Surprising Wizards starter floated as potential Boston Celtics trade deadline target

NBC Sports While arguing that the Boston Celtics should go all in for Banner 18 in 2023–2024, Boston’s Chris Forsberg frequently brought up Alex Caruso as a trade deadline target. However, he also strangely floated Washington Wizards forward Deni Avdija at the conclusion of his column.”

“Should Stevens worry about giving up what is probably going to be the 30th pick in the 2024 draft? The receiving team’s valuation of the pick may be the only issue, as it may be slightly higher than that of another contender,” Forsberg stated before stating, “Yes, trading a pick like 2027 is riskier, but so is not doing everything possible to win a title when you feel this tantalizingly close to a title.”
