NFL offseason schedule for 2024: key dates, deadlines, and events for the Detroit Lions.
NFL offseason schedule for 2024: Detroit Lions’ important dates, deadlines, and events.
The Detroit Lions offseason has unfortunately arrived. The Pro Bowl last weekend means that the Lions won’t play on the field for a few months.
However, the team has a packed schedule of games, deadlines, and significant dates for the upcoming summer. Brad Holmes, the general manager, will need to work hard to keep this team’s current success going.
Here is a preview of the upcoming offseason along with a list of crucial dates to remember.
February 20th: Franchise tag/transition tag players can enter during this window.
It doesn’t seem like the Lions have anyone on their list of free agents who they would contemplate using the franchise tag on. Left guard Jonah Jackson seems like the most likely choice, but Detroit would have to pay an estimated $21.7 million for that franchise tag. That is not taking place.
NFL Scouting Combine, February 27–March 4.
The entire team will be in Indianapolis for the week-long event because we understand how crucial the Lions’ NFL Scouting Combine interviews are.
March 5 is the deadline for players to be franchise-tagged or transition-tagged.
The deadline for the Lions to franchise tag or transition tag a player is March 5.
The “Legal tampering” period is March 11–13.
Teams can begin negotiating with the agencies of players who are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents at Noon ET. This is frequently where the first agreements are fulfilled. A player can “agree to terms” with teams within this two-day window, but they cannot formally sign. Don’t be shocked to see some early activity again this year; the Lions were able to get David Montgomery, Emmanuel Moseley, and Cameron Sutton last year during the tampering period.
