When JJ Redick was named head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, it marked the end of the Mind the Game podcast he co-hosted with LeBron James. However, LeBron chose to continue the show, this time partnering with another basketball mastermind—two-time MVP and legendary point guard Steve Nash.
Nash brings a deep understanding of the game, and his early conversations with LeBron have covered a range of topics including playoff strategies and the intense behind-the-scenes effort required to sustain excellence in the NBA.
The podcast is now adding its first guest: Luka Doncic, LeBron’s teammate and one of the league’s brightest stars. Known for his high basketball IQ and versatility, Luka is a favorite of LeBron’s, largely because they view the game through a similar lens. The upcoming episode, featuring James, Nash, and Doncic, promises to be compelling. They are expected to reflect on the Lakers’ 2024–25 season, particularly their early playoff exit at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and may even touch on the future of LeBron and Luka’s on-court partnership—despite uncertainties around James’ contract.
LeBron and Luka have demonstrated they can be postseason forces when paired with the right supporting cast. James won a championship in 2020 and returned to the Western Conference Finals just last year. Meanwhile, Luka recently led the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals, underscoring his ability to carry a team deep into the playoffs.
Still, not everyone is convinced that the LeBron-Luka duo can win a title together. Former Lakers champion Danny Green expressed doubts, citing what he views as limitations in the team’s top two stars. He believes constructing a title-ready roster around them will be a difficult task. Despite these concerns, the Lakers are entering the offseason focused on building a competitive team around their superstar duo, hoping that with the right moves, a deeper playoff run is within reach.
