
Police are looking into a reported racist incident that occurred during Kilmarnock vs. St Johnstone’s Scottish Premiership match over the weekend.
On Saturday, February 15, the Perth team traveled to Rugby Park, where the alleged incident took place in the away end.
Both teams have expressed their displeasure with the occurrence and stated that discrimination is unacceptable in Scottish sport. St. Johnstone asked anyone with knowledge to come forward and affirmed that they are collaborating with the police. It follows the report of the incident to the Ayrshire ground’s stewards.
In a statement St Johnstone said: “We are aware of an allegation of racist abuse in the away end during Saturday’s game at Rugby Park.
To conduct a thorough investigation, we are collaborating closely with Police Scotland and Kilmarnock Football Club. Supporters are encouraged to get in touch with the club if they have any information.
“As a proud family club, we would want to emphasize that discrimination has no place in our game or in society at large. At this point, the club will not be commenting further.
A Kilmarnock FC spokesperson said: “We are working closely with St Johnstone FC and Police Scotland after being made aware of an allegation of racist abuse in the away end during Saturday’s game.
“Discrimination will not be tolerated in any form at BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park.
Kilmarnock ran out 3-1 winners with Liam Polworth, Fraser Murray and Bobby Wales getting on the scoresheet for Derek McInnes’ men. Graham Carey bagged a consolation goal for the visitors.
