Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown has received some encouraging news regarding his recent shoulder injury.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed on Monday that Brown will not require surgery for the injury he sustained during the team’s preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brown, 27, was hospitalized in the Jacksonville area after dislocating the sternoclavicular joint in his left shoulder. Fortunately, he was discharged from the hospital on Sunday morning and has since returned to Kansas City.
The injury occurred during the Chiefs’ first offensive play of their 26-13 loss to the Jaguars. Despite the early setback, Brown managed to make a catch for an 11-yard gain before being sidelined. The nature of the injury, while significant, has been deemed non-surgical, which is a positive development for the team and player alike.
Brown joined the Chiefs in March on a one-year, $7 million contract after a noteworthy stint with the Arizona Cardinals. During the previous NFL season, he registered 51 receptions for 574 yards and four touchdowns over 14 games, all of which were starts. This performance was a testament to his skill and reliability as a wide receiver. Before his time with the Cardinals, Brown was a first-round draft pick, selected 25th overall by the Baltimore Ravens in 2019. Over his career, he has accumulated 313 catches, 3,644 receiving yards, and 28 touchdowns in 72 games, with 65 of those being starts.
As the Chiefs look ahead to the regular season, the news about Brown’s injury is reassuring. While his absence during the preseason is unfortunate, the fact that he does not need surgery suggests a potentially quicker recovery and a better outlook for his contributions to the team once the season begins. His presence on the field will be crucial for the Chiefs, as they aim to build on their successful campaigns and compete at a high level in the upcoming NFL season.
