Former Mountaineer cornerback Beanie Bishop is making waves with the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason. Bishop’s journey from a little-known role player at Minnesota to an All-American at West Virginia has now led him to the Steelers, where he is seizing an undrafted free agent opportunity to potentially secure a starting position.

Reports indicate that Bishop earned first-team reps at slot cornerback on Day 1 of the Steelers’ Training Camp and continued to impress on Day 2, shutting down receivers like Calvin Austin and Roman Wilson, with only one notable slip. His performance has caught the attention of veteran safety DeShon Elliott, who praised Bishop’s dedication and persistence.

“Little Beanie man, he is doing good,” Elliott said. “Rook, doing his best, learning every day, asking questions every day. Coming to my dorm room and bothering me every day, but I love that boy. I think he is going to be a great player if he keeps being persistent, keeps wanting to learn and grow, and listens to the coaches and follows the leadership of the older guys.”

Steelers Depot has even pegged Bishop as a potential “Training Camp Darling” for 2024, a title given to an under-the-radar player who makes a significant impact. With Cam Sutton facing an eight-game suspension, Bishop’s early reps and strong impressions could be key to securing his spot on the roster this season.
