Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney has announced the signing of unrestricted free agent forward Max Jones to a two-year, $2 million contract. Jones, who scored five goals and ten assists this season with the Anaheim Ducks, brings added size and aggression to the Bruins’ lineup. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 216 pounds, the left-winger is part of a broader strategy that also includes the recent addition of defenseman Nikita Zadorov.
Jones, 26, was selected 24th overall by Anaheim in the 2016 draft and has spent six seasons with the Ducks. Over his career, the Rochester, Michigan native has recorded 31 goals, 31 assists, and 211 penalty minutes in 258 regular season games. He has not yet appeared in a postseason game. This season, Jones delivered 127 hits while averaging 12:03 of ice time per game.
Known for his physical and sometimes aggressive playing style, Jones has a history of hard hits, including a 12-game suspension in the Ontario Hockey League for a headshot. The Bruins also bolstered their toughness by acquiring bottom-six center Mark Kastelic from the Ottawa Senators in the Linus Ullmark trade. Jones, Kastelic, and John Beecher could potentially form a fast, hard-hitting trio on Boston’s fourth line in the 2024-25 season.
