Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney outlined the team’s priorities entering free agency, emphasizing the need to strengthen the center position and fortify the blue line.
According to reports, shortly after the NHL free agency period began, the Bruins secured two key signings: center Elias Lindholm and defenseman Nikita Zadorov. Lindholm, known for his versatile two-way skills, inked a seven-year deal worth $7.5 million per season, while Zadorov agreed to a six-year contract with an annual cap hit of $5 million, as per Chris Johnston of The Athletic.
Lindholm, 29, has been a target for Boston due to his ability to impact games both offensively and defensively. He has amassed over 50 points in four seasons and was a finalist for the Selke Trophy in 2021-22. Despite a slight dip in production last season with Vancouver, where he tallied 44 points, Lindholm remains a formidable presence, particularly noted for his prowess in faceoffs.
Zadorov, a towering defenseman at 6-foot-6 and 248 pounds, brings physicality and defensive stability to the Bruins’ blue line. With six seasons of at least 175 hits to his name, Zadorov adds a punishing presence on defense, having contributed significantly in his recent stints with Calgary and Vancouver.
The acquisitions of Lindholm and Zadorov address critical needs identified by the Bruins’ management, aiming to bolster their lineup for the upcoming season.
