Despite their cap limitations, the Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to stay relatively inactive in the NBA free agency period. Aside from re-signing their current players, the Timberwolves can only afford to offer veteran minimum contracts, ranging from $1.15M to $3.6M, depending on the player’s experience.
As free agents can officially start negotiating from 5 PM on Sunday (though not yet signing), the Timberwolves are already linked to a veteran sharpshooter with a history of playing alongside Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley.

On Saturday, before free agency officially began, Timberwolves insider Dane Moore suggested that fans should watch for Joe Ingles. The Timberwolves had pursued the former Utah Jazz small forward last season but were outbid by the Orlando Magic’s two-year, $22 million offer. However, the Magic recently decided not to exercise their team option for the second season, making the 36-year-old a free agent.
On Sunday, Evan Porter reported that the Timberwolves are indeed showing interest in Ingles. Nevertheless, as Moore previously noted, it’s uncertain whether Ingles is willing to accept a veteran minimum contract in his quest for an NBA Championship.
