Michigan basketball has positioned itself among the top contenders for highly sought-after five-star point guard Darius Acuff in the 2025 recruiting class. Acuff recently unveiled his final list of potential college destinations, with Michigan making the cut alongside Kansas, Arkansas, and UConn.
Under the leadership of head coach Dusty May, who previously guided FAU to the Final Four, Michigan has quickly emerged as a competitive force in both recruiting and on-court performance. Despite starting with some challenges upon his arrival in March, May has bolstered Michigan’s roster and aims to play an engaging style of basketball that attracts top talent.
Acuff, ranked as the top point guard and seventh overall prospect by On3 Industry rankings, hails from Detroit but currently plays at IMG Academy. Although he visited Michigan during Juwan Howard’s tenure, May’s efforts have solidified Michigan’s standing as a finalist for Acuff’s commitment.
While Kansas and Arkansas are currently seen as frontrunners, Michigan remains in contention and may leverage its resources, including potential Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, to sway Acuff’s decision. Securing a visit from Acuff to campus could bolster Michigan’s chances, although no plans are confirmed at this stage.
The Wolverines’ pursuit of Acuff reflects their ambitious recruiting strategy under May’s leadership, aiming to build on recent successes and elevate Michigan basketball’s national profile.
