East Carolina University (ECU) and Clemson University have announced a significant football matchup scheduled for September 1, 2029, at Memorial Stadium. This game marks ECU’s inaugural visit to Clemson and their first away game against an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponent since 2019 when they faced NC State. The agreement adds to ECU’s 2029 schedule, which already includes home games against Old Dominion and Liberty.
ECU’s Director of Athletics, Jon Gilbert, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming game, emphasizing the university’s commitment to competing against top-tier non-conference opponents. He highlighted the opportunity for ECU to showcase its football program at Clemson’s renowned Memorial Stadium, known as Death Valley, renowned for its passionate atmosphere. Gilbert underscored the balance ECU seeks between guarantee games and competitive matchups, aiming to provide an engaging schedule for both the team and its supporters.
The addition of Clemson continues ECU’s strategy of scheduling games against Power Conference teams, ensuring robust competition in future seasons. This approach includes upcoming matchups against NC State, BYU, West Virginia, Wake Forest, and South Carolina, reflecting ECU’s ambition to strengthen its football program by facing formidable opponents.
