The Boston Celtics think Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd might have some ulterior motives with his recent comments about Jaylen Brown.

On Saturday, Kidd made headlines with his proclamation that Brown, not Jayson Tatum, is the Celtics’ best player in his eyes. The Celtics were certainly aware of those remarks by the time they practiced Saturday afternoon, but they were not biting on them.

The Boston Celtics believe that Jason Kidd, the coach of the Dallas Mavericks, may have had a hidden agenda when he made some remarks recently regarding Jaylen Brown.

Kidd made news on Saturday when he declared that, in his opinion, Brown—not Jayson Tatum—is the best player on the Celtics. By the time the Celtics practiced on Saturday afternoon, they were definitely aware of those comments, but they were not taking offense.

Tatum interpreted it similarly. Tatum responded to a question concerning Kidd’s remarks by saying that while Kidd was wise to attempt to create a diversion, he was certain that it would not work.

It’s a team sport here. We are aware of that. Without JB in our lineup, we wouldn’t be in this position, Tatum stated. “Some attempt to create a rift between us. Although it’s a wise thing to do, or try to do, we’ve been in this situation for a long time, with others trying to split us up and claim that one of us is superior than the other or that we should be exchanged.

Even though Kidd may have been sincere in his remarks, the Celtics are undoubtedly viewing them as a bit of posturing. That level of dedication to avoiding distractions is quite remarkable. It makes sense why their coach felt so certain that they could withstand the pressure of the NBA Finals.
