After all of the OTAs, the Steelers were able to demonstrate some positive things, but they also reopened the discussion about certain problems.
Fans got to witness a few new members of the black and gold on the practice field for a few weeks. Players are just now beginning to arrive at the facility and begin participating in practice. It signals that the upcoming training camp is rapidly approaching. For fans of Pittsburgh’s football club, it serves as an exhilarating reminder.
Fans should be pleased that a few issues were resolved at OTAs. The Steelers’ chances of succeeding this coming season may be limited if they can’t resolve their outstanding issues before the preseason concludes.
Before OTAs, the Steelers prioritized finding a replacement for the glaring hole at slot cornerback. After acquiring Cam Sutton last week, they appeared to have found a solution to that issue. Most people are aware of his off-field issues as he returns to Pittsburgh. To bring him back, it would be assumed that the Steelers are satisfied with his legal status.
We’ll watch to see if Sutton receives a suspension and, if so, for what duration of the regular season.
Pittsburgh only had a few individuals that played snaps in the sot for the entirety of their careers prior to the signing of Sutton. They appeared prepared to stake all on an unsettled player to suddenly emerge as the position’s mainstay. Sutton was still available, and the club could benefit from an improvement in quality.
No, Dan Moore Jr. hasn’t lost his starting position just yet, but it appears that it will happen shortly.
It appears like Mike Tomlin will bench Moore at some point during the preseason or early in the regular season. The majority of the layering of the depth chart will be determined by Troy Fautanu’s performance during the preseason. For Broderick Jones to take over at left tackle during OTAs, the necessary preparations have been made.
The Steelers intend to start slowly with Fautanu, so try not to get too enthusiastic just yet. They won’t be moving as slowly as they did during Jones’s last season, one would have to assume. Our guide will be training camp as the black and gold attempt to determine whether it makes more sense to start their first-round choice a few weeks into the regular season or not.
To see if they can resolve this internally first, the squad appears happy to continue playing the players they currently have on the roster. Pittsburgh may add someone before the regular season even though they follow this procedure. Anticipate the black and gold to add a receiver or two before the regular season begins, unless someone sticks out among their peers.
Cam Heyward skipping the majority of the events was another significant narrative to emerge from OTAs. He did make a comeback during the final week, but he has stated that he intends to play out the remainder of his career with the Steelers in three years and wants a contract extension. Because of this external negotiation, Heyward will receive a lot of press; however, there are many other players at training camp whose contracts are up for negotiation.
Usually, the Steelers would have to wait until after the season to sign a player if they don’t give an offer during camp.
Some names like Pat Freiermuth, James Daniels, Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren, and others are open to new agreements, but Heyward will eventually find something out. We’ll have to wait and see, but it doesn’t appear that the players and the team have been in constant contact on possible deals. If a settlement cannot be made, they could prove to be a distraction at some time during camp.
