After cornerback Cameron Sutton was cut by the Lions on March 21, it appeared as though his career could come to an end. It happened the day after the team found out that he had a warrant out for his arrest in Florida on a charge of domestic abuse by strangling.
Regarding domestic abuse, the Lions have a zero-tolerance policy.
Sutton joined the Steelers on Wednesday and participated in team practices, over two months after he was placed in a pretrial diversion program to resolve the battery allegation.
Sutton may still receive discipline from the NFL.Everyone faces adversity in life, but the key is how you respond to it, how you must go through those stages, and simply knowing who you are and refusing to let anyone else make you less of a person, Sutton stated on Wednesday, as reported by ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.
Sutton was a 2017 third-round selection by the Steelers, and he played for the organization for six seasons before moving to Detroit for the 2018 campaign. Considering that Sutton gave up 1,173 receiving yards, eight touchdowns, and a 122 passer rating against him in his previous season, according to Pro Football Focus, it’s not like the Steelers will receive much love for the move.
But it’s clear that Sutton and the Steelers are okay with any blowback.
“A narrative never concerns me. Since they probably don’t know me better than anyone else, I’m never concerned about what other people think of me. Do you understand what I mean? Sutton stated through Pryor. Once more, it all comes down to your principles, your foundation, your unique identity as a person, and what you stand for. I raised my head.
“Once more, everyone experiences hardship and events in life that have the potential to change either way. It all depends on where you stand on that and what you decide to do next. As previously mentioned, I’m prepared to keep heading in the right way. We simply keep going from there while everything else falls into place.
