Following his contentious “white bitch” comment, Pat McAfee and Caitlin Clark appear to be getting along just fine. The ESPN commentator stated on Tuesday that the WNBA player had accepted his apology for the statement.
The former NFL player said on the “Pat McAfee Show” that as soon as he knew his statement had ignited the internet, he contacted Clark and the Indiana Fever.
Shortly after he reached out, he said the team messaged him back to let him know everything was “all good.”
After that, McAfee took several minutes to clarify that, when he said those things on Monday, he was merely praising them. While complimenting someone, he admitted that he frequently refers to them negatively, mentioning that he had called Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes “assholes” while they were on stage at the ESPY Awards the previous year.
That’s obviously a huge mistake on my part,” McAfee remarked. “I apologize for that.”
After promising to take lessons from the incident, McAfee continued to praise Clark, going so far as to label her the main driver of the WNBA’s recent popularity boom.
