In the “Dubs Talk” podcast, Monte Poole and Dalton Johnson explore what lessons the Warriors can draw from the Dallas Mavericks’ roster rebuild after their 2022 Western Conference Finals defeat.

Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins has expertise in disrupting the Boston Celtics’ offensive flow.

During the 2022 NBA Finals, Wiggins effectively slowed down Celtics star Jayson Tatum, helping Golden State secure a 4-2 series win.

In a conversation with Sportsnet’s Amit Mann and Esfandiar Baraheni, Wiggins shared strategies the Mavericks could use to contain the Celtics’ high-powered offense, which boasts the league’s top rating (119.6) in the 2024 NBA playoffs.

“I would say make them uncomfortable,” Wiggins advised Mann and Baraheni. “The key is to disrupt their comfort. Great players have one or two go-to moves, but force them to rely on their third, fourth, or fifth options and see how they handle that. Keep them off balance.

“Stay physical and try to wear them down. That was my goal.”

In 2022, Wiggins was the primary defender on Tatum.

Over 51 minutes and 42 seconds of guarding Boston’s star, Wiggins held Tatum to 37.5% shooting (21-of-56) and forced eight turnovers.
