Donovan Edwards, a football player at Michigan, talks about his NCAA 25 cover appearance.
College football fans are eagerly anticipating July 19th, the release date of the new EA Sports NCAA 25 video game. The game, last released in 2014, is making a comeback thanks to NIL agreements. The official cover and trailer were recently unveiled, featuring Michigan football running back Donovan Edwards, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, and Colorado star Travis Hunter.
Despite not being the starting RB for Michigan football last year, Edwards is the player representing the Wolverines on the cover. Michigan clinched the national title last year, and Edwards had two significant runs in the national championship game. Although last season wasn’t his best overall, and he faced mental challenges, being featured on the NCAA 25 cover feels like a well-deserved reward.
“It feels great, honestly,” Edwards told 247 Sports. “I went through a lot last year mentally. Wasn’t all the way there physically. But more on the mental side, and I stayed patient. I didn’t want to leave. I didn’t want to say, ‘I’m being done wrong.’ I just faced my situation head-on. So, being rewarded with this cover really shows how great God’s blessings are, and just staying patient and staying humble.”
Edwards admitted there was a time when he felt unworthy of being on the cover due to his quiet season. He recognizes that EA had many good players to choose from and is grateful to have made the cut.
“I’m very grateful that EA picked me, because they could have chosen anybody, either on my team or in the country, because there are so many talented guys out there,” Edwards said. “I’m also very grateful to be on the cover with Travis and Quinn — two outstanding guys, who are likely first-round draft picks.”
When Edwards learned about being on the cover, he called his teammate Blake Corum, the star RB of the team last year. Edwards felt he didn’t deserve the cover, but Corum reassured him.
“One of the guys from EA, Ty, said, ‘keep it a secret,’” Edwards recounted in an interview with 247 Sports. “So I called Blake [Corum] when I got the news, and I was like, ‘this is crazy because I always think I can do better. I told him, ‘I don’t even deserve to be on here; I didn’t have a great season to be on the cover.’ He basically told me that I deserve it. I’ve been through a lot. Growth mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, and that God has blessed me. He said there’s no doubt I’m going to have a big season this upcoming year.”
