Defense lineman Cameron Heyward of the Pittsburgh Steelers has never skipped an offseason practice, according to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor. However, it seems he will in 2024.
Heyward “has not attended voluntary offseason workouts” this year and “plans to attend OTAs,” according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, who reported on May 15. Heyward wants to negotiate a new contract with the team.
According to a source who spoke with Fowler, Heyward intends to play for a few more years and is healthy following his core muscle injury from last year.
The 2024 season will mark the end of Heyward’s current contract.
Heyward has spent his whole playing career with the Steelers after being selected with the 31st overall pick in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He’s been selected three times for the first team and once for the second team All-Pro. Heyward has also appeared in five Pro Bowls.
However, last season was the first time since 2016 that he did not make the Pro Bowl. However, Heyward managed his ailment from the start of the 2023 training camp to the team’s postseason run.
Heyward finished the previous season with two sacks and 33 total tackles, including six tackles for loss in 11 games.
