JUST IN: In preparation for National BBQ Day, Bowling Green becomes a part of the West Kentucky BBQ Belt.

WBKO – BOWLING GREEN, KY The businesses Split Tree BBQ and Smokey Pig in Bowling Green have joined the recently formed West Kentucky BBQ belt, a Kentucky tourism destination.

A news release from the Bowling Green Area Convention and Visitors Bureau stated that the belt, which now consists of 18 Kentucky cities, was established to promote and preserve the distinctive craft of Bluegrass barbecue.

“We are passionate about barbecue in Western Kentucky, and this new trail is a great way to highlight its rich history,” stated Sherry Murphy, the executive director of the Bowling Green Area CVB.

In addition to Bowling Green, other participating cities are Owensboro, Henderson, and Russellville.
