Donovan Mitchell’s future with the Cleveland Cavaliers will need to be resolved this offseason, but the star guard might not be entirely comfortable with the team’s present setup.

Chris Fedor of cleveland.com reports that Mitchell has occasionally become irritated with the degree of dedication and the immaturity and lack of focus of some of his teammates. According to the source, the veteran guard has experienced some annoyance with his younger colleagues and believes they are unwilling to pay attention to him and follow his advice.

In addition, Fedor pointed out that there have been rumors of a strained connection between Mitchell and coach JB Bickerstaff, whose job security is seriously questioned following the Cavaliers’ Eastern Conference loss to the Boston Celtics.

A bad connection between Mitchell and coach JB Bickerstaff, whose job future is highly questionable following the Cavaliers’ loss to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals, has also been mentioned, according to Fedor.

Which of Mitchell’s teammates is causing him frustration is unknown. However, Fedor mentioned in a another section of his piece that center Jarrett Allen’s delayed recuperation from a rib injury has caused some irritation within the organization. Some players and staff believed Allen should have done more to try to participate in the Celtics series, according to a second story by Shams Charania, Joe Vardon, and Jason Lloyd of The Athletic. In the end, the center missed the entire series.

Mitchell’s contract has one guaranteed year remaining, and Cleveland may offer him a maximum extension this offseason. Despite his claims that he is content with the Cavaliers, he is still being connected to other teams, thus it is unclear if an agreement will be reached.

Whatever Mitchell’s condition, Cleveland’s offseason is expected to bring about adjustments. Even if Mitchell decides to stay, that may cause another elite player to consider leaving.
