Field hockey pushes 5-a-side format with goal of joining Olympics | CBC  Sports

Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn’s under 12s hockey team successfully advanced to the national finals after competing in the North Wales pool of the U12s Schools Hockey tournament. The tournament, held at Wrexham University on April 23, saw nine players from Tywyn showcasing their skills.

Despite a challenging first game against Brynhyfryd, Tywyn’s solid defense, led by goalkeeper Layla Stone and defenders Nel Pughe and Amelia Wyre, secured a clean sheet. Evie Hodges contributed two goals, demonstrating excellent teamwork.

The following match against Botwnnog proved tough, requiring collective defensive efforts. Despite a 2-1 loss, goalkeeper Layla Stone’s remarkable saves kept Tywyn competitive.

In their third game against Mold Alun 2, Tywyn dominated with an impressive 11-0 victory, fueled by goal scorers Evie Hodges and Polly Richards. Strong attacking runs from Cadi Fowles, Dani Prescott-Smith, Isabel Pattison, and India Catherwood boosted team confidence.

Facing Brynrefail, Tywyn secured a decisive 4-0 win, maintaining their competitive edge. Mold Alun 1 faced a similar fate, with Tywyn clinching another 4-0 victory.

Although challenged by David Hughes in their final match, Tywyn’s resilience led to a hard-fought 1-1 draw, securing their spot in the national finals. The team’s dedication was evident, supported by enthusiastic cheers from their supporters.

Acknowledgments were extended to the support crew, including Katie Pattison, Crona Hodges, and Rhian Pughe, as well as umpire Spencer Pughe. The players, who also represent Dysynni Hockey Club, eagerly anticipate the U12s Nationals competition on May 9 at Christ College, Brecon, alongside other top-performing teams.
