Women's hockey : How the teams qualified for Paris 2024

The upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games will feature 12 teams competing in the women’s hockey event, with the Netherlands aiming to defend their title. Here’s how the teams secured their spots:

In Pool A, the Netherlands, as reigning champions, earned direct qualification by winning the EuroHockey Championships 2023. Belgium and Germany secured their places through the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers after strong performances in the EuroHockey Championships. Japan and China also qualified via the qualifiers, with China notably winning the Asian Games 2022.

Hosts France automatically qualified for the tournament as well, completing Pool A alongside these teams.

In Pool B, Australia and Argentina qualified directly as continental champions from Oceania and winners of the Pan American Games 2023, respectively. Great Britain earned their spot through the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers, while Spain and the United States also qualified via the same route. South Africa secured their place as continental champions from Africa.

The top four teams from each pool will advance to the quarter-finals, setting the stage for an exciting competition in Paris.
