Kentucky has secured its first transfer addition under Mark Pope with the signing of Drexel center transfer Amari Williams. Described as a dominant force on the court, Williams brings a formidable defensive presence and versatility that aligns with Kentucky’s playing style.
Mark Pope praised Williams, highlighting his accolades as a three-time conference defensive player of the year and emphasizing his impact as a rim protector and rebounder. Standing at 6-foot-10 and weighing 230 pounds, Williams boasts impressive stats, averaging 12.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game, including numerous double-digit rebounding games and double-doubles.
Known for his shot-blocking prowess, Williams led the CAA in blocks for three consecutive seasons and maintains a high block rate. Pope also commended Williams’ offensive skills, noting his effectiveness around the rim and playmaking abilities, making him a valuable addition to Kentucky’s roster.
Beyond his on-court contributions, Williams could play a pivotal role in recruiting efforts, starting with the potential recruitment of his former high school teammate Great Osobor, who is scheduled for a visit to Kentucky soon.
