NCAA news: 5-star prospect Khaman Maluach commits to play at Duke

Duke basketball has finalized its highly touted recruiting class with the addition of its last player.
The Blue Devils’ recruiting efforts came to a close as they received the National Letter of Intent from their final prospect, 5-star center Khaman Maluach.

Maluach, who committed to Duke in March, hails from the NBA Academy Africa and quickly rose to a Top-10 ranking in his class upon announcing his decision to join the 2024 prospects.

Head coach Jon Scheyer expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am thrilled to welcome Khaman Maluach to Duke. Coming from South Sudan and the NBA Academy Africa, Khaman brings a unique perspective and exceptional skills to our team. Standing at 7-foot-2, he possesses the ability to score both inside and outside, handle the ball proficiently, and provide strong rim protection.”

Recently, Maluach participated in the 2024 Nike Hoop Summit as part of Team World, where despite limited playing time, his physical attributes, including a 9-foot-6 standing reach and 7-foot-8 wingspan, showcased his immense potential. NBA scouts are already eyeing him as a potential Top-3 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Scheyer highlighted Maluach’s leadership qualities, on-court energy, and team-first mentality as standout traits that drew Duke’s attention during the recruitment process.

Maluach will join other top prospects at Duke, including Cooper Flagg, Isaiah Evans, Kon Knueppel, Patrick Ngongba II, and Darren Harris, making for an impressive roster for the upcoming season. His accolades, such as being named MVP at the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Africa camp and earning playoff and defensive MVP honors at the Basketball Without Borders Global camp, further underscore his potential impact on the court.
